Open Afternoon Thursday 3rd May (2.00-3.30pm)
The afternoon will begin with a 15-minute rare documentary film of HH the Dalai Lama during his final Geshe Examinations in Lhasa, Tibet, from the summer of 1958 to February 1959.
This will be followed by a 40-minute film of HH the Dalai Lama giving teachings in Dharamsala, India, in 2015. The topics he covers are based on the understanding that selflessness is the means to liberation. He also talks about memory and remembering past lives. In particular, however, he focuses on the happiness that is to do with the mind. ‘If happiness were in externals,’ he says, ‘then those same external things would give happiness to everyone, but they don’t. The individual, therefore, plays a role in it.’ He finally refers to modern science, psychology, ancient Indian thought, and the importance of love and compassion beyond discrimination.
The session will be followed by discussion and tea.
