Understanding Buddhism in the original Pali and Sanskrit

Fridays 2.00-3.00pm Understanding Buddhism in the original Pali and Sanskrit
with James Whelan.

Pali Manuscript, India, 18th century @ The Metropolitan Museum of Art

These Sanskrit/Pali classes are designed to assist learners with little or no prior knowledge of Sanskrit or Pali to enter straight into the original texts and understand them in the original, starting with some of the best known chanted texts.

In parallel, we will be developing a groundwork knowledge of grammar and sentence building.

We also take the vocabulary of the core concepts of Buddhism and analyse them through their roots and etymology, so that the meanings ‘come alive’.

As we progress, we can adjust to what the students most want and find most useful.
