Film: Seven Wonders of the Buddhist World, a BBC documentary.
Historian, Bettany Hughes, visits seven well-known Buddhist monuments across the globe. She uses the journey as a backdrop to putting forward the Buddha’s teachings and to investigating how Buddhism is practised in the world today.
She interviews monastics and lay practitioners along the way, and integrated into the film are the words of Richard Gombrich (ex-Boden Professor of Sanskrit and scholar of Buddhist studies at the University of Oxford), and Robert Thurman (American Buddhist author and academic), plus others.
This is a presentation which reaches beyond the superficial cultural aspects of Buddhism to the essence of the teaching.
The film runs for approximately seventy-five minutes and will be followed by discussion and tea.
