Film: Shodo Harada Roshi, a Rinzai priest and head abbot of Sogen-ji (a three-hundred-year-old temple in Okayama, Japan), is known as a ‘teacher of teachers’. Buddhist masters of various lineages sit sesshin with him in Japan.
Every year since 1989 Harada Roshi has conducted a meditation retreat at a Buddhist centre in Washington. This film is a recording made at one such retreat. In it he talks about the purpose of Zen meditation, the story of his own life, and how he came to be a Zen priest.
This film runs approximately 55 minutes.
