Techniques, while helpful, can become traps.

Techniques, while helpful, can become traps. When we become fixated on perfecting a particular method or measuring our progress in meditation, we can lose sight of the true aim of practice: insight into the nature of reality. The Dharma is not about perfecting a technique or attaining a specific state of mind, but about cultivating a deeper awareness of the impermanent, unsatisfactory, and selfless nature of all things. In this sense, the techniques themselves are only vehicles—they are not the destination.
