Dharma Read: The Practice of Dāna.

True generosity arises from the recognition that when we give, we are not losing something, but participating in a flow of generosity that benefits both the giver and the receiver. In this way, dāna becomes an expression of our inherent compassion and our understanding of non-self. By giving freely, we loosen the bonds of greed and cultivate a sense of abundance, realising that the joy of giving far surpasses any temporary satisfaction gained from holding on to things.
The practice of dāna teaches us to expand our perspective, moving beyond narrow self-interest and recognising the welfare of others as inseparable from our own. It is the first step on the path to awakening because it begins with the outward movement of the heart, opening ourselves to others in a spirit of love and care.
